"A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals."-Larry Bird
I like to start off my day with a quote, something to inspire me to get moving and get things accomplished. If you could put a theme to my life right now, it would be Goals. One year is over, a new one begins and what are my plans? I like to think of myself as a glass half full person, so rather than be discouraged by what I didn't accomplish/stick with in 2011, I'd rather focus on the possibilities that lie ahead. Don't sit still, keep moving.
There are goals that I can accomplish on my own and goals that I'd like to accomplish except...I need that required second person. Do you ever feel like you focus on the secondary goals, the ones you can't possibly get done without the help from other people, rather than the ones you can do right now, on your own? I think it's always easier to blame someone else that something didn't pan out than realize...it was all your fault! Yours! I find I do this a lot. 2012 Goal No. 1 is to take responsibility: you want it, you get it. It's this realization I've had that in addition to all of the things that I can't get on my own - marriage, a baby, a relationship - there is an overwhelming amount of things that I Can get for myself. And remind myself of that when I start to complain that things aren't going the way I wish them to. It reminds me of the movie The Wedding Date. There's this quote by Dermot Mulroney (ok, maybe I remember the quote because he said it), that says: "Every woman has the exact love life she wants." True story. Life is what you make it!
I was thinking maybe I'll just stick to making one goal for today, but why not be ambitious. Probably the most important goal that I should be making each year is to strengthen my spirituality. That could be broken up into 50 goals and I still would be thinking of more things that I can do to become closer to the savior. 2012 Goal No. 2 is strengthen my testimony: Read the book of mormon twice this year, and study one church talk a week. I know what you may be thinking, not hugely ambitious. Not to worry, this goal is more of a beginning....a place to launch from rather than fall off the wagon in February like many people that make going to the gym their New Year's resolution. Oh hey, 2012 Goal No. 3! Log in more gym time.
Let's summarize shall we:
No. 1: Take responsibility for your life: you want it, you get it, it's your life!
No. 2: BOM 2x this year; Study one church talk a week
No. 3: Gym time 4x a week
This goal-setting is more of a marathon than a sprint so I'm just going to pace myself. That's all for now! Here's to a fresh start for 2012.
